@Robert he was talking about being recognised as the strongest dragon Slayer. Almost every dragon recognises his armour. He's the grimp reaper for dragons, "The Warrior in Black".
Also if you don't remember, he was captured as the prisoner of war in first chapter, nobody recognises him as dragon Slayer because he was wearing the Blackgold armour covering his face.
