@PurrpiTator Cheryl is the main character, so her arc is important for whatever is happening now with the big villain. We know the continuity of the original story only on the Illyana's side, but she is not heroine, so probably the big villain had to be defeated by Cheryl, while Illyana's endeavour is to save Mag.
