cos Boss Shaw said in the novel that the reason why he hated the idea of An Ze attempting that exam was because being in the supply station would mean he'd find some higher-ranked man to sleep with and gain status/other benefits. So not only did he feel inferior enough to want An Ze to suffer at the bottom with him, but he feels such egotistic "possessiveness" towards An Ze. What a useless waste of space
