@J_x I think it's also a bit of a translation issue!
Taeha seems OBSESSED with the female lead...He acted distant because he wants HER to be as obsessed with HIM as he is !
Which is understandable! He CRAVES and YEARNS for her love and affection...Otherwise, he wouldn't act like this
