aye sorry i'm advanced for the long comment but the misunderstanding of his character kinda pis*** me off, im just going to make my own comment instead of replying to everyone's. and kinda repeat what i've already said. he had a bug, literally, in him allowing his father to control him and i assume know his actions (or at least have an idea) but his "sister" or the leader of the cult removed it so now he's able to help her. they don't exactly know each other except for meeting a few times when they were young and then when he saw her at the black market i assume he grew more curious about her and her abilities. from his past reactions, he's never technically done anything wrong, he never gave the impression of being enemy, but again could only do so much. his situation makes things complicated.

@smply HOWEVER, when the pink haired girl attacked her (the second time) and she said that she hopes in the next life she become one of her people, he truly opened his eyes. hwi admires her as family and someone who is strong. also after all the sh** he's dealt with and the position he's currently in he longs to be one of her people. someone who would actually stand up and protect said people. he's not in love with her in the sense that everyone has been saying, but his "sister" said something in the last chapter or so that gave him the courage to do what he actually wished to do and even if it means his death he's willing to help his cousin someone he has wanted to help since he realized she could change the fate his clan (AND FATHER) has made for everyone. kinda like how his aunt, her step mother, tried so hard to marry her off so he wouldn't used as a pa** or just killed due to her strength (the original haewon) never realized she was being poisoned, but the stepmother's actions while bad, were to keep her from having the same fate she had (being sold and used as a game piece in the dang family), but what they both felt was a family love. hwi is not in love with his cousin, thank you for coming to my ted talk

@bluezzz ahaha thanks 😂 it just drove me crazy, he's not my favorite character or one i even like by any means, but everyone was misunderstanding the point of his affections or love towards her it was driving me nuts, the author actually really portrayed his character well i had to go on a little rant
@smply I agree. I do not hate his character tbh. And yes, he's actually portrayed very well. He just wants to be one of her people, he wants someone to take care of him. Because he didn't have anything like that since the beginning.
He's not a bad person, he's trying to help his cousin. He was just born and brought up in an evil environment and family. I just hope he's saved. But you never know.
