I’m so tired of people acting like Riftan is just being a jerk here. Like, look at the situation, he literally sees the only person he cares about in the world covered in blood and half dead. Who in their right mind is going to sit down and have a "civil conversation" in that moment?
Yeah, his communication sucks, but he’s reacting out of pure terror. He’s told her a million times how dangerous it is, and now his worst nightmare is happening right in front of him. At some point, Maxi being so stubborn stops being "brave" and starts being a massive mental burden on him. He most likely can't even focus on the war because he’s constantly worrying about her. Honestly, she needs to take a break from the field, if only for the sake of Riftan’s sanity. You can't expect him to be perfectly calm when his "whole world" nearly died. Sorry, I had to side with Riftan on this chapter.
