@CressentM00n Thanks for the reply! I'm asking just for clarification.
Spoiler!
I'm not from the USA, and my knowledge of it's history is superficial. I come from a country whose history, unfortunately, also included slavery, where whites (and other nationalities) were slaves and whites were masters, divided by origin and birth. And from my own country's history, I know that more than one nation (but many) experienced slavery, and that emancipation from slavery didn't happen instantly. I can assume that in these respects, the histories of different countries are similar.

Ah, I understand, the timeline is inaccurate! First, there should have been emancipation in a northern state like Illinois, then a military conflict, and then demobilization (and the cowboy era is very roughly ~1865-~1890). And it was at this point (1865-1866) that MC arrives in the wasteland.

Honestly, I got the impression that MC didn't give money as a way to free the slaves. There was a promotional video for this story on social media, and the video described the subsequent events: MC selling everything he owned, paying off all his father's debts, and giving away all his money because he was going to end his life. So, perhaps this gesture had that meaning. (But this is speculation; we'll never know, so it's just speculation.)
I got the impression that ML's race could be Native American descendant. I don't know how likely that is. And based on this, I thought ML's straight hair made sense.

I apologize for any mistakes; English is not my native language.

@ItsNotOverYet I see the point your making and your English is quite fine. You pointing out the speculation oh him going to end his life could change the the meaning but ut still doesn't change the lack of research that went to making this. Such heavy topics should never be written about unless you have done extensive research and fully understand what went down. I am the author has decided to cancel this and revise everything but all he really needs to do is just remove the slavery part. I'm telling you people would eat up the cow boy Era.
