@Alcoholic Crusader no that's wrong. It is 34. Because there is no talk of the parents combined being the answer it just says: "The mother is 3 years old and the father 5 years older than the mom and dad is 42". So, it's simple 42-5-3= 42

@Alcoholic Crusader if X+8=42 and it becomes x=34 then i think you take the 2x both the mom and Dad and then divided it by two or they just forgot to add the last information because this aint adding up.
