I honestly think he has some mild or even severe ptsd and anxiety bc in his eyes this man ruined his future and he's finally free from his past, and now it's right in front of him. His body language shows that he was scared, and/or anxious, and so his fight or flight response might have been to run away. Away from his problems bc he's not ready to deal with them.
