Midou grew as a character here. From the beginning of the story, you can clearly see how he wavers in majority of his decisions. Only when he gained the confidence did he stop wavering from his values and thoughts. It's understandable that people would feel pis*** to see him be this way towards Shinjou when he's the one who helped him gain the confidence, but it's human nature to be that way. Once trust is "betrayed", you rarely get a second chance. So both characters here aren't wrong, they just happened to clash due to circumstances and mental states.
