Dude has the ability to eat monsters and become stronger and are invulnerable to certain things, but he decided to become an adventurer instead. I would basically live inside the dungeons.

@Allen Osborn like why would he need her as partner for starters..this dumb person can level up infinitely..i really hate when authors push female companions like these everywhere
@Benozene00 also we see that in the beginning when the minotaur used the substitute skill there weren't any need of physical contact. At this pont this author just forcing the romance.

@milk I actually read the novel and it just wasnt shown in the manga, a bit of a poor execution in terms of explaining how substitution works.
Substitution limit on no contact only applies if you're the same species.
Demon sword possessed small time villain didn't work because the human accepted it but not the sword.
Elf doesn't work cause they duff species. Weird condition but with the context it makes sense.
Also factor in human desire to have companionship cause camping in dungeon to be strong can be mentally exhausting with no one to talk to
