Ch. 46
The real queen has awakened gif sticker in the next chapter
Spoiler!
As soon as Simon fell, Medea sensed the approaching beasts. She quickly grabbed Simon's sword and defended herself against the creature that rushed toward her. Unfortunately, her horse did not survive the attack. Medea immediately suspected that Angelique and Simon had worked together to eliminate her. Without wasting time, she mounted Simon's horse and rode away while several wolves chased after her. Using the crossbow, Medea managed to drive away most of the wolves, but one continued following her. The chase eventually led her toward a cliff. When the wolf leaped toward her, Medea defended herself, but the force of the encounter caused both of them to fall over the edge. Fortunately, the dense trees below broke much of her fall. Medea quickly recovered, moved away from the area, and decided to remain hidden until the situation worked in her favor. Meanwhile, chaos briefly erupted in the hunting grounds when more wolves appeared. The Valdina knights quickly dealt with the remaining threat, while the groundskeeper insisted that he was innocent. He explained that he carefully maintained the hunting grounds and had never seen wolves there before. During the headcount, the knights realized that both Simon and Medea were missing.
They soon discovered Simon unconscious near the scene, with signs of a struggle surrounding him. His sword was also stained, making the situation look suspicious. When Simon regained consciousness, the knights immediately questioned him about Medea. Simon denied harming her, but the circumstances made it difficult for anyone to dismiss their concerns. The Dowager ordered the Knight Commander to organize a search party for Medea and instructed the knights to keep Simon under supervision until the matter was resolved. Catherine and Joaquin attempted to object, but the Dowager remained firm. She wanted Medea found immediately and refused to allow anyone to interfere with the investigation. Elsewhere in the forest, Medea was relieved to discover that the trees had softened her fall. After making sure the area did not reveal where she had landed, she decided to remain hidden for the time being. She believed that allowing suspicion surrounding Claudios to grow would be more useful than immediately returning to the hunting grounds.
Around the same time, Carlo reported that they still had not found the Tears of Dawn. Caesar's subordinates were increasingly worried as his condition continued to deteriorate. Then Zeta arrived with news that Medea was missing from the hunting grounds.
Despite his condition, Caesar personally went searching for her. When he reached the scene, he carefully examined the evidence and refused to believe that Medea could have been defeated by such a simple trap. The situation reminded him of how fragile human life could be, bringing memories of the late Empress back to him.
Then Caesar noticed something familiar—the broken needle from the brooch he had given Medea. He immediately understood that Medea had probably turned the situation around and escaped on her own. His concern eased slightly, and he continued searching until he eventually reached a cave where Medea had taken shelter.
Inside the cave, Caesar noticed signs that someone had recently made a small fire. Before he could investigate further, Medea returned from searching for food. The moment Caesar saw her safe and unharmed, he rushed toward her and embraced her in relief. Medea was surprised and slightly annoyed by his reaction. She wondered how he had managed to find her and warned him that he should let go unless he wanted to activate the defensive mechanism in the brooch he had given her. Caesar eventually released her and calmly prepared the rabbit she had brought back. Once Medea had settled down, he asked what she intended to do next. Medea explained that returning immediately could create problems. Her uncle might accuse her of deliberately hiding and use the situation against her. Caesar suggested that they could claim that Medea had been discovered by people from the Magic Tower. Medea agreed that this would be an effective way to put Claudios in a difficult position, although she remained curious about why Caesar was helping her so much. Instead of answering directly, Caesar asked about her future plans and ambitions. Medea avoided answering and gradually became tired. As she drifted toward sleep, she quietly admitted that she was glad he had stayed with her. She wished that he had been there during the difficult moments of her past because she might not have been so afraid to sleep while worrying about Jared.

Spoiler!
Caesar was surprised by her words. As Medea slept, he noticed tears quietly slipping from her closed eyes. For someone who usually appeared so composed, the sight revealed a vulnerability she rarely allowed others to see. While Medea remained missing, rumors spread throughout the kingdom. The public demanded that Simon be held responsible and some people even began questioning the Katzen delegation. Eventually, Medea and Caesar met Terrance, who agreed to escort Medea back to the palace and claim that he had discovered her by chance while conducting research. When Medea asked what the Magic Tower wanted in return, Terrance directly mentioned the Tears of Dawn. He explained that the legendary medicine was believed to have the power to cure even serious illnesses and that the First Prince was searching for it. Caesar immediately gave Terrance a warning look, but Medea calmly pretended that she knew nothing about the Tears of Dawn. She then remarked that cooperating with the First Prince might be more beneficial than supporting Jason. When Caesar, still disguised as Acares, asked how she knew so much about him, Medea simply explained that it would be difficult not to hear about the First Prince on the continent. When Acares pointed out that Caesar's health was failing, Medea responded that his determination to continue pursuing his goals despite his condition showed remarkable perseverance. Caesar had stopped expecting recognition from others long ago, especially after being treated as an enemy by his own father. Yet hearing Medea acknowledge his determination gave him an unfamiliar sense of warmth.
When the Dowager learned that Medea had returned, she immediately hurried to see her. Terrance explained that he was temporarily representing the Tower Master and had discovered Medea in the mountains while conducting research. According to his story, Medea had been in poor condition when they found her, and he and several mages had spent considerable time helping her recover. This explained why her return had taken so long. Everyone was relieved to see Medea safe. However, Joaquin soon attempted to argue that Medea's disappearance had caused unnecessary trouble for Simon. Medea visibly became frightened when Simon approached her. Terrance quickly explained that she appeared to have lost her memories of what had happened during the incident. Her reaction caused those watching to draw their own conclusions. Many began to suspect that Simon had behaved improperly toward Medea during the hunting trip. The Dowager was furious that the Claudios were focusing on their own problems instead of Medea's condition. She ordered Simon to receive twenty lashes as punishment for abandoning his royal companion and failing in his duty to protect her. Joaquin once again attempted to challenge the order, but the Dowager refused to change her decision. Simon was taken away to receive his punishment while the crowd watched.
Meanwhile, many of the citizens who had benefited from Medea's victory in the duel came to welcome her back and express their gratitude. Medea patiently met them and accepted their well wishes.
Finally, Jason arrived carrying a large bouquet. He wanted to make amends with Medea after failing to reach her during the hunting incident. He tried to connect with her by saying that he understood what it felt like to be betrayed by one's own family and implied that they shared similar experiences. Medea immediately rejected the comparison. She calmly told Jason that her brother, the person she considered her true family, had never betrayed her. Jason was deeply frustrated by her response. After everything he believed he had done for her, including refusing to support Claudios during the hunting incident, he could not understand why Medea continued to keep him at a distance.
