Now I really wonder what was the main reason for their break up, because by this interaction, it can be seen that they have deep affection for each other. Was it simply because the MC could not keep up with her GF's pace?

@Lazy Guy because the MC was actually lazy. But now he is a mary sue that can ignore the bad traits of himself AND the villan character while using other of the same traits as excuse to be able to do anything and everything.
