im not gay so i wouldnt know exactly what they are feelings but i know that a lot of them once wished they werent gay. you think they wanted to feel ashamed of liking the same s**? do you know the fear of being "abnormal" ? they are scared of people like you, who look at them like theyre disgusting. Back then they would be called mentailly ill (even now actually). Obviously some of them wanted to be "normal" but they cant marry or have s** with a woman,some were even forced to marry but they would just feel miserable and so would their wife.
just like how you cant get hard for men they cant get hard for women (unless they are bi) so yes its not something they can control stupid.
