Two main thoughts:
1st: war kills and destroys your soul completely. The White Death paid a great price that most pay in war, who could sleep peacefully after m*rdering 100 in war? No one, war destroys your soul and mind.
2nd: to be that hurt about it that you made a bond, everytime he kills someone a part of him will suffer the consequences... It was a really human thing to do, it shows how kind he was.
