@The observer he's someone who has never really been in a fight to the death before. Tomoe and Mio are the only beings before this who were capable of harming him in any way and one fought mindlessly while the other was more interested in who he was than killing him. He's also still a teenager, someone who grew up without real violence around. He may have more mana and a stronger body but he lacks experience, while Sophia has loads

@The observer He obviously doesn’t have battle experience, having never faced a skilled opponent, therefore he was heading to the academy to gain more experience and learn additional magic spells.
