@Rico actually, it's pretty acurate. a well shot arrow can peirce most armour and sheilds. the armoru and sheilds are mainly for defending against swords, axes, and hammers

Yup.

"The force of a bow fired from horseback, depending on the bow's draw weight and the archer's skill, can range from around 40 to 60 pounds of force at the peak of the draw, but the actual impact force on a target can be significantly lower due to the movement and instability of the horse while galloping." 

Since the cavalry was stationary , the movement part doesn't apply.

Meanwhile, arrows often don't penetrate decent plate armor enough to be immediately lethal -but this bunch were just standing there, taking arrow after arrow, and all that damage to armor and bodies adds up.
