The father wasn't going to do anything until after MC got home and he saw the result of Awakening. Why did MC rush home unprepared and prompt the father into a rage when he could've just called the police in advance or made other preparations while he still had time? If the author wanted a reason MC had to get beat up, they could've just said he went into a violent rage after getting drunk and was going to attack the mom regardless of if he was there or not, then his rushing would make sense and no lie would be able to buy time.

@Nelson Mandela if I read the context correctly then MC called in advance, under a false pretense guaranteed to get the cops to arrive. Calling them on a domestic disturbance, where there were no injuries to document, wouldn't have likely saved his mother, but if his father threw his tantrum unprepared, then he would at least have evidence to corroborate his claim.
