I think it was the manhwa "Kill the Hero" (not that one, the other one) where the "heroes" in question refused to clear the final dungeon. If they did, their powers and Skills would disappear once the world was freed, and they'd lose their hold on the population and the governments. They killed the MC because he was strong and made it to the final boss room with them, but would never go along with such a plan. And then MC regressed to the day he Awakened.
