I think that J's obsession with Makoto to became strong might be out of loliness or something. We just learned that a demon can't say the name of another demon who's superior to them. In a prior chapter Makoto wondered if there was a demon in that moment who was higher than J, and I think their might not be. Maybe he just wants Makoto to be as high as him to be capable of saying his name and just be up there with him. To kill him or his loliness I'm still not sure.
