I get his point of view, she had no grief, and she said it as if it was very normal. Then again, I don't blame her, she grew up with all the luxuries and did not pay any mind to all this stuff. 

After her father's death, she was clearly able to see what the common people have been going through all these years. 

I am not implying that his behaviour with her can be justified, they both were in the wrong at some points.
