1. he wanted to protect karlyle and his reputation and denied so he doesn't cause him any problems and rumors doesn't start spreading
2. truth is he's constantly reminded of what karlyle said when they started this "no feelings involved" so he holds onto that too and tries to maintain a cold facade
3. he's not yet aware that he's in love with karlyle, ash has been hurt a lot in the past love wise so he's a bit closed off feelings wise and in denial for now but give him some time he'll get there

So some people in the comments said ash had like a past relationship and a hard time that's why he doesn't know he likes karlyle yet...How we know about bis past relationship? I'd think he'd be the one to breakup...
But I saw people saying ash likes the husband of karlyles brother(kyle)
And I remember him having a kinda strange reaction to knowing that the husband is pregnant
I always had the feeling that ashs affected ain't genuine and he is wayyyyyyy toooo kind as if he's putting on some act yk yk
