It's unfathomable to us to just decide to kill your child, but considering what he'd done , the consequences for the family and that he didn't understand what he'd done wrong...
He couldn't be left alone, and you couldn't exile him within the country, he'd have to be given over to the law.
Telling him to take a quick acting poison might have been a kinder death than what would be coming to him from the law.
He's only alive and in tact because she'd rather see him suffer for what he did.
