@chicken so basically Yugeon and the Commander had a silent competition of sorts going on. The Commander said if you call out my name I'll help you and then you'll only serve me. But Yugeon didn't want to, pride probably, and also not wanting to be completely dependent on him, so until the end he didn't call the Commander's name for help. By doing what was required of him as a guide and collecting those "good job" stamps, he finally gets to see his brother without giving up all his dignity but that in itself also breaks him as we can see at the last panels. In the novel it is more elaborate but that is more of less the gist of it.
