Well, he's a tyrant so there's a rebellion and they managed to dethrone him, well since he's able to avenge his brother, he already gave up the throne, that's why he said he's been waiting. Thus, since he's still alive and the current king most probably feeling threatened about that, he ordered the commander to kill him
