My understanding is that hes trying to show his family that he's not in it for the money. His broader family is so afraid of him taking charge and them no longer receiving money that they oppose everything Yuyu suggests. Him taking 1% shows that he's not in it for the money, but for the overall success of the business. This will hopefully sway his family to make better decisions knowing that Yuyu won't be dipping into their own payouts.
