It's to add more story to the plot, I mean think about it, wouldn't you prefer a story with good plot and interesting instead of a story where the protagonist just kill everyone else and keep doing that for the whole work? Personally I prefer something like this, if It were only destruction then it would be boring after a while. I think it should be worth waiting at least some chapters before dropping this series

Personally I feel the same as you, only i will be severely disappointed if he decides not to attempt human extinction just because of the girl. If that happens I will be dropping it
