I did say that this comment wasn't made to justify his actions, but just to point out that his character has undergone a massive shift, he is still obnoxious but not as bad as he was in the beginning,, like at the start he was truly a sad***, then he became an obsessive lover and in this chapter he has overcome that obsession as well, so I just pointed it out
