For a noble of that gramps standing, he would never waste his time on something like that if there were other blood related options. The second problem is regarding possible feuds for the right of succession of the family as heir. It's too much of a problem for an obtuse old man like him... that's why he told his daughter to abandon the kids of the other wife.
