Also, I don't think he has to worry too much about the coward label. She specifically said the cleanup team has "useless cowards" in it. A coward who gets so scared that he immediately finds the shortest, most efficient way out sounds like a boon to the company whose whole goal is to gather as much dream essence as possible.
