Hmm the ending was surprisingly better than I expected, I was expecting Theo to khs or either one of them will die . Well since this is psychological horror short story , I don't think it's fair to complain about the ending since it's too short to explain everything .  Most of horror short one shot bl usually had open ending or bittersweet ending in case if this is your first time reading short one shot horror bl.
(this is quite satisfied bittersweet ending I think ? Since Theo was accepted the paradise and no more ghost , despite his mental issues become more severe than past )
the ' ghost ' only appeared when Theo reject paradise and increased his frightful thoughts/ hallucinations. Theo was mentally ill since very young. Cedric ' interact ' with ghost might seems to be he faced problem, a dissatisfaction he wanted to get rid for long time. Ghost feels like just a accelerator in negative thoughts or emotions instead of supernatural beings. Cedric no doubt is messed up just like his father, inherited the weird obsession over Theo.
Gabriel, probably that's us readers, the not existence to Theo inside the story lol

Gabriel could be a stand in for us--just an expositional tool--or he could represent the seminary education theo recieved in england, his first attempt at attonment through g** (preisthood desires). and in the end when he goes to dinner w/ cedric and speaks to his mother rather than that letter being sent; it shows how cedric is forcing theo to choose him as his attonment, to stay with him. Js like you said, he is obsessed w/ theo, his fiance looks like theo, he won't let theo feel better through anymeans besides himself because though he may veil his obsessions (veiled even to himself) in love, deep down he is a broken child who inherinted a taste for theo.
