@Chris I dunno if he came from an Earth, but if they had public libraries, they likely had some form of organization, hopefully similar to the Dewey Decimal System.
The power of a Dewey Decimal-type system is its flexibility. They had the Library of Congress system at the colleges I went to, and it's very rigid. When computers were invented, they had to shoehorn in a whole new category for them; with DDS, the computer books were able to fit in an existing category.
