The problem with Riftan is that he looks strong and unbreakable but he's very insecure and that's the main reason why he can't have a proper conversation with Maxi without being aggressive/anxious. It's good that they're clearing all the misunderstandings anyway, they're truly in love with each other and that's what matters the most.
Just feeling is a subversive act but expressing it is rebellious
