@Samantha yeahh, I partly thought that too, but then I think maybe he just didn't expect other guys or people will like him except for kusakabe, cause he thought of himself as a gloomy, boring guy... And that makes him thought that kusakabe is a really special person cause he's the only guy who can put up with him or so... Just a thought
