I really wasn't expecting to see that monster, or whatever it was, but it was sick. I'm guessing the monster represents his sword style, but I don't know in what way

@yep It doesn't just show the Sword style, but also a sort of 'fear' factor of a sort. Like when he faced the Name Gryphon, it sensed 'that monster' and saw him as the bigger threat in that moment. And as it was just explained, The smith can help judge a person with his grip, their pros and cons, like the Master with his eyes.
