So honestly this is kind if relatable I think. Having someone tou have loved for years practically say they are just toying with you, your heart would be broken and even if you decided to give up on them you'd still want one last good memory with them before completely giving up. I don't think he's actually toying with him though so I think he'll deny his request until he can remember what happened before or something like that.
