In the novel, MC knows she's currently living as a pickpocket to provide for herself and her brother and that they would be attacked by gangsters soon, and that the death of her brother is why she became a villainess originally. So he plans to recruit her before that tragic event happens, by going around her area for a period of days to entice her to pickpocket him, stashing a 100$ into his wallet and i think wearing disguises each time I'm not sure. He'd also inscribe a letter into each wallet she pickpockets until all of them spell out "E.G.O.S.T.I.C." as a clue.

But his plan goes wrong, because the gangsters ends up attacking her and her brother much, much sooner than expected, and at that point she'd only pickpocketed MC once or twice. 

He rushes to rescue them, and this is around night time as well so MC decides to make it a horror scene for the gangsters. He starts by throwing grenades at the door of the building to force one of the gangsters to come out to investigates, then he shoots that gangster and uses his telekenisis to switch the lights off inside the building, scaring them. He enters the building in the dark and the gangsters start shooting at him, but MC flicked the bullets away from him. Then because it's so dark they think he's dead but he trolls them by turning the lights on to show he isn't harmed, terrifying them even more just before he kills them.

It was very epic in the novel lol.
