@alice ahhh all of the sudden? What are you talking about? 
He's always been the main villain. He's the reason MC cant work anywhere, cant get good prices for his work, and is living in misery without knowing every single one of his potions is making blondie a millionaire. 

He's not just romantically jealous, he need MC because without his magic he is the same mediocre useless royal who is worth nothing. 
He's fighting to keep his obsession, his wallet and his royal dignity
