It was pretty simple from what I read. She managed to beat the author. Author went kicking and screaming for a bit but accepted her defeat. Edith and him went to the territory and lived their life happy. Author was trying to regain her glory but just kept digging a hole for herself until no one could stand her and she was chased out.
