If you slip up due to a lack of experience—amplified by people who don't care about the reasons behind who someone "is" or the capacity to change—you get branded a horrible person, as if carved in stone. What makes you special is the capacity and the will to improve throughout this process. Thank God, I am surrounded by people with hearts of gold with whom I can grow.

But I absolutely agree with you on that last point. It’s not healthy for either of them. For starters, you shouldn't begin a relationship already feeling like you owe something—because that’s exactly the feeling: that you owe compensation for what happened. It opens the door to all sorts of issues, including the possibility of being mistreated by the other person. At the same time, you shouldn't start off with bad memories of your partner or feelings of paranoia about them.

That said, there are people who manage to overcome these kinds of relationship hurdles; it’s incredibly rare, but it does happen. Maybe that will be the case for them. So, if the comments section is just going to perpetuate the narrative that the male lead is trash, there’s no point in reading it.
