@ladopa While I don't agree with MC punishing physically (like beatings), understand that:
1. This is clearly a different culture (even today in schools children get smacked around by teachers).
2. A time period where corporal punishment was acceptable (and encouraged)
3. Murim
4. MC is an old guy, so he sees them as kids/brats, and punishes them as he was probably as a kid/student
5. No one is going to beat the MC because they all still think he's mentally unstable. No one is going to beat a mentally/physically unwell person because he might regress.
Also, everyone processes grief and loss differently. The original MC's breaking point was losing both parents (very closely together), as a child. That made him mentally snap, not everyone can easily "gets over it". The original Hang's backstory is tragic, come on.
