Ippilolito gets maletta pregnant. He then tells his mother who has her killed. We also find out that isabella and ippilolito aren't actually the carsinals kids. Also the mother dies and Adriane and the crown prince get into a secret relationship

Arabella is murdered by isabella who pushes her down the stairs. I Don't remember why exactly she does it as it's been a while since I read the novel. But this leads up to the mothers death.
