i dunno if going back is the right choice... but as we readers now know that the one keeping an eye on him are the king and his henchmen and that they are going to execute him if he leaves the country i guess he got pretty lucky.

Not lucky. He made the right choice bc he knew he was being watched. Now he'll basically get old and destroy the henchmen B4 leaving
