@The King Of Weed in asian culture, when you're close with a person (an elder in this case), you can call him/her uncle/aunt. It's a form of respect which means that "he's not just some stranger to me, he's my family."

@The King Of Weed what he said but actually, in asian culture we don't use stuff like "mister" so we just use uncle. I've seen in japan too they call stranger old guys uncle in their language, what i mean to say is, however we say uncle is like how they say mister in the west. 

"hey mister" = "hey uncle"
