@Washy u sound exactly like my friend, she has like the exact same thing going on with this boy and he also had a girl he used to like but something happened with him and after a while my friend confessed and things kinda didn't go how she wanted and he was going through a lot so he told her that he wanted to stay friends sooo if u want advice, be 1000% sure that he is into you and likes you the same way before u want to confess or anything, but from what you said he sounds pretty interested so good luck!!
