"I didn't really understand why" is always code for "the two love interests don't actually have the chemistry to justify this". Okay he does his job and cares about his people. What's special about that? Doesn't the entire Knight Order care? I don't think that's justification enough to fall in love with him when you can barely wipe your @ss withouth his permission.
