so what im understanding from this chapter is that after losing everybody he loved, tj attached himself to the person who held him when he was in shock (aka ian). now tj has grown to believe that if ian were to leave then he would truly have nothing. and ian knows this, hes been there and seen everything, so hes scared to leave and would feel guilty if he did... thus why ian embrace's tj during the s3x scene instead of pushing him away.
in conclusion... tj has abandonment issues and ian is too kind for his own good. i feel for both of them tbh but this relationship is not healthy by any means considering that ian feels "free" when with jo
