@Michael Bootes I see your point on the use of the sword. Makes sense.
It just seems like overkill by the MC. I guess it's just an issue where he was set up to have lived for a veeeeeeeeerrryy long time in the evil demon king's prison world. And he defeated her, an entity that had destroyed many worlds. I understand he's trying to keep a low profile, but I just don't really understand his power scaling. I guess it's only chapter 12, but that's also the reason why him grabbing the sword doesn't have much impact to me. Is he strong? Overly cautious? Intelligent? 
With the power scaling and the focus of the story so far, the only thing I understand about the MC is that he has a bleeding heart.

@AggroWall in this case I'd argue he's being adequately cautious. It was established in the back story that even he who had bested the demon queen of infamy couldn't manipulate the root on his own. Nor could she. Whoever they are up against either has power enough to do so, possesses a sword like artifact of their own or knows some manner of trick.
