So he have a medicine that has the side effect that he hears a voice , but what is this medicine for?

@demon It seems like the medicine was to control/stop "the voice," Whereas the side effects as mentioned was actually "lu**." Hence, by not taking the medicine "that night," he wasn't in his right mind and wouldn't listen to reason
