I feel like migwa is trying to make us feel pity for joo jaekyung and this came up so suddenly that we forget what he did in past with dan totally wrong his behaviour in the past is totally opposite of him in his backstory he should have understood dan if his own backstory was like that I get healed has tough personality and his backstory is sad but we can't forgive what he did to Kim dan and beside also said that Kim dan is for him to handle his jinx and nothing else this doesn't make any sense🤷♀️

@Yuki we got the backstory because it explains the fact that he was messed up in the head and he had issues and an inability to understand love because he was never once received it the reason he treated Dan the way that he did was because the setup for his life and the way that he was built was that he always had to survive on his own and that any kind of kindness Dan ever showed him was fake he spent his entire life in a situation where he was constantly being hit and beat this would definitely mess up his mental and make it impossible for him to understand how to treat others much less so kindness. He lacks emotional maturity and he did not understand how his actions affect others this is constantly showed throughout the series that he actually is completely unaware of the type of abusive or toxic person he became because of what he went through it's simple psychology no it doesn't excuse the wrongdoings he's done. But it does explain the character and it makes perfect sense people who don't go through trauma have no capability of understanding this or even showing empathy. Most bullies in life are actually victims themselves that they don't know how to regulate their emotions and what they do is they end up taking it out on other people.
Short dumb down answer he's got mental issues he needs mental health he's never received mental help and the one person that showed him love sadly he abused and pushed away because he was never taught how to love and it is not as simple as what everyone thinks emotions are complicated and humans are complicated and human beings do messed up s*** when they've been through messed up s*** it doesn't make it okay but that doesn't mean showing a lack of empathy is okay either any person who can even look at a bad person and show a lack of empathy they themselves do not truly understand what it means to be empathetic he is learning from his mistakes because someone finally showed him kindness after he's been many years not being shown what he was given by Dan he did not know how to process it and he's finally learning from his mistakes aka the dudes only human
